There are several engraving sites located along the western cliff line, watch your step, that joins Ellis Trig. This particular site, perhaps one of at least three recorded by W.D.Campbell in 1899, will not be visible for much longer. This platform is bleached and appears as a white patch of rock.<br />

This site features a large group of emus, men and shields, Baiame and some other ancestral beings from the dreamtime. Of particular interest is the presence of the Rainbow Serpent figure. This particular engraving is rare in the Sydney-Hawkesbury District and is present at Maroota (Dharug Country), Mangrove Mountain (suggested by some as Darkingjung Country), Somersby (suggested as some as Darkinjung Country) and in a very dangerous and difficult to reach location near Jerusalem Bay (Guringai Country). </span></div>

This cave art site is located exactly where William Dugald Campbell described it was in 1899. At that time it was described as being directly under the large Baiame Figure on the Cottage Point Road, some six feet above the high water line. Once at this location, you get a sense of the connection between the Baiame engraving, this cave art site and the lower ceremonial site on Mount Murray Anderson to the south. Campbell described other art at this location which unfortunately is too faint to determine or is simply not there anymore.

This cave art site is located exactly as William Dugald Campbell described it in 1899. At that time he recorded that people had defaced the paintings but that the charcoal drawings were in tact. In 2020 his description holds fast. Once again, if you didn't know what you are looking for i.e. the charcoal drawings ...you wouldn't find them. Absolutely beautiful and near Apple Tree Bay.

There might not be a larger cave with rock art left in this part of NSW. It is as described, by William Dugald Campbell in 1899, a large cave around 200 foot long and between 13 - 30 feet deep. There are huge middens in front of the cave suggesting an incredible occupation time. The charcoal drawings, as recorded in 1899, are barely visible whilst the ochre paintings stand solid amongst the test of time. You could not find this cave unless you knew what you are looking for. It is breathtaking! Some of the nearby residents are suspicious of people walking and searching through this part of Brisbane Water National Park - be prepared to be called "another white Abo" - it irritates you for the first 3 sledges - the Central Coast of NSW couldn't possibly be racist !

The Koolewong Trail in Brisbane Water National Park has quite a few smaller trails running off it. This Emu Dancer (Daramulan) was found in the vicinity of a network of caves toward the southern end of the trail. It was covered by leaves and soil. Unless you knew what you are looking for, you may just miss it and walk over it. This type of engraving is found in some special places in Guringai Country. It's a pointer that something more important is in this area.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The 248 Trail in Popran National Park is well worth a visit. The start of this trail is a short distance from the picnic area that contains some interpretative signs. This trail is well suited to mountain bikes and around a 60 minute return trip through some beautiful forest. The rock platform at the end of the trail contains many circle engravings that lead off in many directions.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are a number of engraving sites that have been documented within the Mona Vale Road area at Ingleside over time that seem to be at serious risk of destruction - accidental or otherwise. A number of these sites have been surrounded with a single layer of barrier tape however it remains to be seem what will happen to them in reality.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This particular site features a number of engravings and partners with another site that includes two echidnas, shield and mundoe trail on the corner of Mona Vale Road and Lane Cove Roads. That site was first recorded in 1965 around the same time that the other sites were recorded that follow the road line back up toward Terrey Hills.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The man engraving is depicted with open and upright arms - usually considered to be a welcoming pose. It has been suggested that more echidna engravings were present with him. The state of the platform is disappointing.</div>

It will be an easy exercise, with GPS locations, to determine how this rich piece of Aboriginal and Australian History, has been treated in 2019.</div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">This collection of engravings were reported to the Sydney Morning Herald on the 16th April 1930 by a local resident. These were not recorded by WD Campbell in 1899. They are almost midway between Wagstaffe Point and Lobster Beach. They aren't easily identified unless you know what you are looking for. Included in the newspaper report were: Fish, Eels, Kangaroos and a snake. The snake may represent a Hairtail fish. This location is very close to a rock full of iron deposits and nearest the second maritime marker east of Wagstaffe Point.
