Yep ...we are all still patiently waiting for the day when the people from world's oldest continuing culture, holding the same legal rights as a rock on a track before 1967, the traditional owners of this land, are at least acknowledged in the Constitution of Australia as part of the development of a treaty and edge closer to true reconciliation.

Yep - we are all still waiting ....

Echidna and Shield Group, Mona Vale Road, Ingelside

Main Echidna
This is truly a magnificent site that has been protected from destruction in the early construction of Mona Vale Road. It is likely that this engraving site extended across Mona Vale Road. This site was recorded originally by I.M.Sim. Recorded at that time was a pair of echidnas, several weathered and oval-shaped mundoes and a snake with at least 10 bands (if not 11). This is incorrect as the snake is a significant shield that takes in some of the contours of the surface and is banded. It is around 5Ft long rather than 6Ft as recorded - very impressive shield engraving. The echidnas cannot be clearly seen in direct sunlight - water is needed to be poured across the surface. The location of this engraving site is the corner of Mona Vale Road and the Lane Cove Rd. The echidna site is the second rock platform from the intersection heading east from the intersection on the northern side of the road.
