Yep ...we are all still patiently waiting for the day when the people from world's oldest continuing culture, holding the same legal rights as a rock on a track before 1967, the traditional owners of this land, are at least acknowledged in the Constitution of Australia as part of the development of a treaty and edge closer to true reconciliation.

Yep - we are all still waiting ....

Bulls Hill Quarry (North) - The Missing Group of Engravings

W.D.Campbell recorded this group back in 1899 around the same time that he recorded another similar group some 400 metres to the north east. F.D.McCarthy included this group with the other group (1st Series) but used the same co-ordinates to identify both sites. There are some similarities between the two: the same man and a canoe (recorded as a whale) with emu tracks at one site rather than an  emu itself.

Large Slender Fish, Bulls Hill Quarry

This engraving appears to be a large slender fish - it might also be an engraving of a large elongated shield. This is engraving is located on the top of the hill immediately west of Bulls Hill Quarry, in Brisbane Water National Park.

Large Fish, Bulls Hill Quarry Area

This large fish engraving is to be found approximately 230 metres walk from Woy Woy Road along an access trail 200 metres south of the Bulls Hill Quarry Trail.

Unusual Spider / Octopus style engraving, Bulls Head Quarry

This engraving is very feint but has been engraved with incredible precision. It is similar in some ways to the octopus engraving at Bulgandry in nearby Kariong. In other ways it reminds me of a red-backed spider. The whole detailed engraving is only about 10 -15 cm from top to bottom. It is totally different to the "spider ant" engraving in the Warrah Trig area near Patonga.

One Large Toed-Mundoe, Bulls Hill Quarry

This large mundoe appears to have toes - this is significant. What is unusual is that this mundoe is found on it's own. From it's location on the top of the hill immediately west of Bulls Hill Quarry, it points toward the lower Woy Woy Road 7 Shields ceremonial site that is south west of the Woy Woy "Rabbits" Site.

Echidna / Small Wombat style engraving, Bulls Hill Quarry

This echidna / small wombat-shaped engraving is located on the top of the hill west of Bulls Hill Quarry. It is located about 3 metres from the edge of one of the many platforms.

Curved Engraving, Bulls Hill Quarry

This small curved engraving is located in the bottom of a small rock pool on the summit of a hill west of Bulls Hill Quarry.

Series of horizontal lines, Bulls Hill Quarry.

These engravings are located on a steep section of the main rock platform at the top of a hill west of Bulls Hill Quarry. These engravings are similar to those that I have seen at Muogamarra Nature Reserve (Manta Ray Site) as recorded by W.D.Campbell in 1899.

Small Female Figure, Bulls Hill Quarry

This engraving appears to be of a small crude engraving of a female. It is located well away from the main engraving platform in an isolated area of rock - perhaps 100-150 metres north of the entry point to the ridge.

Axe Groove in Pool, Bulls Hill Quarry

There is a small axe groove located in the bottom of a rock pool on the summit of a hill west of Bulls Head Quarry. It is approximately  15-20 mm deep - quite unusual as these sorts of grooves are usually located around the edges of the rock pools.

Large Canoe, Bulls Head Quarry

This engraving is almost identical to the one at Bulgandry in Kariong. It is very weathered. If you weren't familiar with the canoe at Kariong you probably wouldn't notice this engraving.

Large Triangular Engraving, Bulls Head Quarry

This engraving is of a large triangular shape next to a natural rock pool. It is located on the summit of the hill immediately west of Bulls Hill Quarry.

Small wallaby engraving, Bulls Hill Quarry

This engraving appears as a small and very weathered wallaby. The arch of the wallaby's back, tail and head are still recognisable. This engraving is located on the summit of the hill immediately west of Bull's Head Quarry.

Emu Track, Bulls Hill Quarry, Brisbane Water National Park

This engraving is of an emu track. It is located on the summit of the hill west of Bull's Head Quarry. This is not a common engraving in this area. Engravings of emus exist in this area - tracks are few and very fair between.

Shield or Stingray, Bulls Hill Quarry

This engraving appears as a shield or a stingray. It is located on the summit of a hill west of Bull's Head Quarry. The engravings on this platform are few and sparsely located.

Engraved Lines, Bulls Hill Quarry

There are many rock pools on this hill. Pictured are some engraved lines that border one of the rock pools - appearing like a boomerang, fish or an eel.

Sword Club Engraving, Bulls Hill Quarry

This appears as a sword club engraving. It is very weathered as are other engravings in this area perhaps an indicator of its age. This platform is on the summit of the western most hill adjoining Bulls Head Quarry. This platform is extensive, extremely difficult and dangerous to reach. It is in full view of the other Whale site west of Mt Wondabyne, and close to the 60 ft whale site. To the north-east it is aligned with an open camp site containing several stone arrangements. This location was originally recorded as 100 yards west of Woy Woy Road - this must have been a typo - at least 1000 yards !

Cave Art, Bull's Hill Quarry Western Summit

There is a series of caves on the Western Side of the summit of the hill immediately west of Bulls Hill Quarry. These are located under part of the engraving platform and extend for around 20 - 30 metres under the southern end of the hilltop. These face toward the 60 ft whale, recorded by W.D.Campbell in 1899, located about 200 metres away. The caves seem to be linked and are between 4ft and 5 ft in height. This particular cave contained echidna footprints on the floor, has some charcoal drawings and ochre prints including some that are white. I don't ordinarily do caves !

Large Crescent Shaped Engraving, Old Gosford Quarry Site, Bulls Hill

This large crescent-shaped engraving is one of a number of engravings located on a large rock platform on the western side of Bulls Hill Quarry. This engraving partially resembles a boomerang, sword club or part of an echidna. Located on this same rock platform is an old camp fire and plenty of broken beer bottles - a ceremony of sorts!

In addition there is a series of engravings that combine naturally occurring water run-off grooves with indigenous engraved lines. Whilst not a common occurrence in this area there are some sites that have also been created in this way. An example of this technique is the 60 foot Whale recorded by W.D.Campbell (1899) that is located approximately 600 metres west of this site.
