Yep ...we are all still patiently waiting for the day when the people from world's oldest continuing culture, holding the same legal rights as a rock on a track before 1967, the traditional owners of this land, are at least acknowledged in the Constitution of Australia as part of the development of a treaty and edge closer to true reconciliation.

Yep - we are all still waiting ....

Bulls Hill Quarry (North) - The Missing Group of Engravings

W.D.Campbell recorded this group back in 1899 around the same time that he recorded another similar group some 400 metres to the north east. F.D.McCarthy included this group with the other group (1st Series) but used the same co-ordinates to identify both sites. There are some similarities between the two: the same man and a canoe (recorded as a whale) with emu tracks at one site rather than an  emu itself.

200 Foot Cave Art Site, Woy Woy, Brisbane Water National Park

Long lasting actions of a cognitively impaired individual.
Ochre Paintings and drawings

Charcoal Drawings are nearly gone for ever.

View across the cave floor - midden.
There might not be a larger cave with rock art left in this part of NSW. It is as described, by William Dugald Campbell in 1899, a large cave around 200 foot long and between 13 - 30 feet deep. There are huge middens in front of the cave suggesting an incredible occupation time. The charcoal drawings, as recorded in 1899, are barely visible whilst the ochre paintings stand solid amongst the test of time. You could not find this cave unless you knew what you are looking for. It is breathtaking! Some of the nearby residents are suspicious of people walking and searching through this part of Brisbane Water National Park - be prepared to be called "another white Abo" - it irritates you for the first 3 sledges - the Central Coast of NSW couldn't possibly be racist !

Large Banded Whale, Koolewong Trail, Brisbane Water National Park

Banded Whale
This banded whale engraving is located on the northern end of the Koolewong trail that ends at the location of the Emu Dancer engraving quite a few hundred metres to the south. This whale, unlike others in the area is positioned toward the east, indicating that something special is to be found in that direction - a network of caves in a similar way that the Emu Dancer indicates.

Emu Dancer (Daramulan) - Koolewong Trail, Brisbane Water National Park

Emu Dancer 1

Emu Dancer 2
The Koolewong Trail in Brisbane Water National Park has quite a few smaller trails running off it. This Emu Dancer (Daramulan) was found in the vicinity of a network of caves toward the southern end of the trail. It was covered by leaves and soil. Unless you knew what you are looking for, you may just miss it and walk over it. This type of engraving is found in some special places in Guringai Country. It's a pointer that something more important is in this area.
