2 Emus, F3, Berowra

These two small emu engravings were saved from destruction at the time the F3 was constructed. They sit high on a cliff ledge to the east of the F3 Whale site that is in the middle of the F3 at Berowra,

Whale, F3 Freeway, Mount White

Whale Remains north of the Helipad

One engraving site that was damaged/destroyed during the construction of the F3 Freeway is to be found north of the Southern Exit to Mount White. The rock platform seems to be connected to others, including another on the western side of the freeway. All that remains is the whale head and a large circle. To the east is a fence (star pickets and barbed wire / updated to 8 foot steel mesh) that prevents access to another two large platforms - very strange indeed and not replicated as I have seen along other parts of the F3.

This engraving site is located beyond the RTA barbed-wire boundary adjacent to the F3 heading south from Ourimbah near the Peats Ridge Ridge turn-off. There are several engraving sites in the shoulders of the F3 and may be linked in some way to another couple some 200 - 250 metres southward.



 

Pair of Emus, Cowan

Smaller Emu of the Pair - Cowan

This pair of emus was recorded by W.D.Campbell around 1899 well before the F3 and northern railway was built. This site was connected to the larger site that remains isolated in the middle of the F3. There were two emus recorded - one is discernable at present. Access to the site is difficult with the site located on the boundary of the cliffs above the F3 and the Railway Corridor.

Stingrays, Old Hawkesbury River Road Bridge, Brooklyn

Stingrays under the Old Hawkesbury River Road Bridge

This engraving platform is easy to reach being located on a rock platform under the Old Hawkesbury River Road Bridge at Brooklyn adjacent to the F3. Access to the site is via a short trail from the old Service Station Site north of the turn-off to Brooklyn on the Old Pacific Highway. There are other engravings nearby and across the bay.

Small Man, F3 Freeway Hilltop

This site contains a solitary small man engraving - very weathered and difficult to find atop a high hill next to the F3 Freeway. The fire trail used to access the climb is just south of the first Speed Camera heading north from the Hawkesbury River.

Whales Site F3

Sacred and significant site saved from destruction. Large Whales, emus and several other engravings are located on top of a large rock in the middle of the F3 Freeway (Sydney-Newcastle). Easy access except for parking. Sadly graffiti and vandalism is still a problem.
