Yep ...we are all still patiently waiting for the day when the people from world's oldest continuing culture, holding the same legal rights as a rock on a track before 1967, the traditional owners of this land, are at least acknowledged in the Constitution of Australia as part of the development of a treaty and edge closer to true reconciliation.

These engravings are accessible via a fire trail that leads from the Pacific Highway at Cowan towards the Cowan Railway Tunnel.

Small man engraving near Cowan Railway Tunnel.


A small engraving of what appears as a 3ft man is present on the rock platform that several current and some old Energy Australia power poles are located. Eye pits are present as is the feint outline of the figure. A woman and large kangaroo are located south west (approx 90 metres) with a small group of engravings nearby and closer to the railway tunnel.

Pair of Emus, Cowan

Smaller Emu of the Pair - Cowan
This pair of emus was recorded by W.D.Campbell around 1899 well before the F3 and northern railway was built. This site was connected to the larger site that remains isolated in the middle of the F3. There were two emus recorded - one is discernable at present. Access to the site is difficult with the site located on the boundary of the cliffs above the F3 and the Railway Corridor.

Kangaroo, Cowan Railway Tunnel

Large Kangaroo
This site holds two engravings - a kangaroo and a woman. The site is accessible via a fire trail (Wedgewood) near the Cowan Railway Bridge (LHS heading north). It is near another engraving site close to the Cowan Railway Tunnel.

Man and Woman, Muogamara Nature Reserve

Man and Woman
This engraving site is often referred to as a sex site but might be a representation of birthing. Located on a very small platform on the western side of the main trail near the fork in the road and NSW NPWS Gate at Muogamara.

Baiame, Jerusalem Bay

Jerusalem Bay Sacred Site
A large and significant group of engravings, including Baiame, can be viewed near the beginning of the Great North Track that recommences at Cowan Station. The engravings are a short 10 minute wak from Cowan Station crossing over the F3 Freeway via the pedestrian bridge.

Muogamara Nature Reserve, Cowan

Daramulan 
This significant engraving site is accessed just off the main trail within the Muogamara Nature Reserve at Cowan. There are several groups of figures nearby. It has been suggested that this figure represents a koolewong (Koala) which is a possibility whilst some authors suggest Daramualn in the guise of a koala.

Weathered Man
This site, before the construction of the F3 Freeway, was accessible from the Old Pacific Highway. The main subjects are a man and a woman. The man is extremely weathered and just visible.
