Yep ...we are all still patiently waiting for the day when the people from world's oldest continuing culture, holding the same legal rights as a rock on a track before 1967, the traditional owners of this land, are at least acknowledged in the Constitution of Australia as part of the development of a treaty and edge closer to true reconciliation.

Yep - we are all still waiting ....

Welcome to Country Man Engraving - Mona Vale Road Roadworks Site near Lane Cove Rd, Ingleside, NSW

Welcome to Country Man Engraving

What is left of the welcome to Country Man engraving site  June 2019.

There are a number of engraving sites that have been documented within the Mona Vale Road area at Ingleside  over time that seem to be at serious risk of destruction - accidental or otherwise. A number of these sites have been surrounded with a single layer of barrier tape however it remains to be seem what will happen to them in reality.

This particular site features a number of engravings and partners with another site that includes two echidnas, shield and mundoe trail on the corner of Mona Vale Road and Lane Cove Roads. That site was first recorded in 1965 around the same time that the other sites were recorded that follow the road line back up toward Terrey Hills.

The man engraving is depicted with open and upright arms - usually considered to be a welcoming pose. It has been suggested that more echidna engravings were present with him. The state of the platform is disappointing.

It will be an easy exercise, with GPS locations, to determine how this rich piece of Aboriginal and Australian History, has been treated in 2019.

Large 4 Toed Mundoe, Chiltern Road, Ingelside

Large 4 Toed Mundoe
There are many old weathered engravings to be found on several rocky outcrops due west of the end of Chiltern Road. This is not an easy to reach engraving platform - no trails in or out - straight bush bash and not for those who are not experienced in this form of bushwalking. This mundoe appears to be pointing toward the West Head area - Elvina Track direction. It is unusual to find a single mundoe such as this as they tend to be in pairs and located in sacred areas.

Kimbriki Tip Area, Kimbriki Road, Terrey Hills

Old Weathered Kangaroo Engraving
What appears as an old weathered kangaroo engraving is located on an isolated rock platform featuring a rock pool and stone arrangement that is accessible of a fire trail in Kimbriki Road , Terrey Hills. There may be other engravings nearby. Follow the fire trail until it ends and head south east toward a platform that consist of two paralell rocks. The kangaroo, barely visible without water, and follows the contour of the platform of the RHS platform.

Echidna and Shield Group, Mona Vale Road, Ingelside

Main Echidna
This is truly a magnificent site that has been protected from destruction in the early construction of Mona Vale Road. It is likely that this engraving site extended across Mona Vale Road. This site was recorded originally by I.M.Sim. Recorded at that time was a pair of echidnas, several weathered and oval-shaped mundoes and a snake with at least 10 bands (if not 11). This is incorrect as the snake is a significant shield that takes in some of the contours of the surface and is banded. It is around 5Ft long rather than 6Ft as recorded - very impressive shield engraving. The echidnas cannot be clearly seen in direct sunlight - water is needed to be poured across the surface. The location of this engraving site is the corner of Mona Vale Road and the Lane Cove Rd. The echidna site is the second rock platform from the intersection heading east from the intersection on the northern side of the road.

Mona Vale Road, Ingelside

Important Lady !
This significant site is in danger of being destroyed through the widening of Mona Vale Road. Some people just don't get it. Featuring a very large whale and other men and women (not often reported in the media) this site is adjacent to Mona Vale Road not far from the Kimbriki Tip intersection heading east.

Mona Vale Rd, Ingelside

Eroding engraving
Old engraving site that has suffered much. It is located within a native vegetation protection area near the Bahai Temple at Ingelside. Old sign post markers are in place. Not a lot of engravings left here.
