This rock platform, with a great view toward Ocean Beach and Ettalong, is located south of the road between Umina and Patonga. This is an area that is sometimes referred to as "Warrah Sanctuary". The 24 foot whale is barely visible except under rainy conditions and the right light. The western-most outline of the whale has a "pointer" in the form of one axe groove and what appears to be the engraving of the toe of a kangaroo. The whale outline is visible when you stand near the axe groove and kangaroo toe and follow the line that these create - toward the north east. Around 14 engravings were recorded as being present on this site - about 4 are still identifiable.
Revisiting the Aboriginal Engravings of the Sydney / Hawkesbury Districts. 14 Blacks, 6 Tigers, 3 Death Adders, 8 Brown Snakes, one unidentified grey blue snake but no pythons ..... that would be about 42 serious reptiles for more than 511 engraving platforms and a few caves - INXS of 7636 engravings, still counting and still loving it!!!
Yep ...we are all still patiently waiting for the day when the people from world's oldest continuing culture, holding the same legal rights as a rock on a track before 1967, the traditional owners of this land, are at least acknowledged in the Constitution of Australia as part of the development of a treaty and edge closer to true reconciliation.
